Located on Puget Sound, Seattle is surrounded by water, mountains and evergreen forests which has earned its nickname as the “Emerald City.” Originally, logging was Seattle’s first industry, but by the late 19th century it had become a commercial and shipbuilding center. Today, Seattle has been known as more of a tech center as it is home to Microsoft and Amazon.com.
Seattle also has an influence from the performing arts. In fact, the jazz scene was the beginning for legends Ray Charles and Quincy Jones as well as the birthplace of Jimi Hendrix. Popular sports teams in Seattle include the Mariners and the Seahawks. Following sports of course comes tourism. Seafair events along with the Seattle International Film festival are key events in this city that can be enjoyed in summer months. Additionally art galleries, museums and cruises often headed for Alaskan waters are leading generators for tourism in Seattle.
