Recently voted one of the best places to live by CNN as well as one of the most friendly towns by Forbes in the United States is Sammamish. The foundation of the city is a strong sense of community and family. It is a small town environment with suburban character combined with urban lifestyle and convenience. Various, quality neighborhoods offer recreation and gathering spaces that boast both cultural and educational opportunities. With the recent incorporation just in 1999, the residents are actively involved with decisions shaping the community and maintaining the quality of the city.
There are many parks and outdoor recreation opportunities in Sammamish. Hiking trails and pretty wooded scenery lie around the development of housing in the area. The major city parks include Beaver Lake Park, Pine Lake Park, NE Sammamish Park, East Sammamish Park and Ebright Creek Park. A few additional parks are in the planning stages. To round out the outdoor recreation, there are a couple of private golf clubs for the golf aficionado. The Plateau Club and the Sahalee Country Club which hosted the PGA Championship in 1998 and the World Golf Championship-NEC Invitational in 2002.
